CLINTON - The jacket of a steam pipe ruptured at the Smithfield Foods plant late Wednesday afternoon, causing an explosion that injured two workers, with one of them requiring treatment at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill for multiple compound fractures and burns he sustained as a result.
