Cheaper Auto Insurance

Sometimes people ask me whether or not they can get cheaper automobile insurance policies. Now there are some ways to do that, that I recommend and some ways to do that, that I couldn’t possibly recommend. For example, you could always reduce the cost of your automobile insurance by reducing your policy limits. Instead of insuring your car for Five Hundred thousand dollars worth of liability in uninsured motorist coverage, you could insure it for a hundred thousand. Obviously, because you lower the amount of your coverage, you reduced the cost but I can’t recommend that to you because you are getting a reduction of cost but you are giving up an important benefit which is proper insurance. Another way to reduce the cost of auto insurance would be to purchase a different kind of policy instead of the standard policy that provides for full liability and uninsured and personally do protection coverage. There was a basic policy which provides only a limited amount of insurance, something that I would call “No Insurance” insurance; it’s just a piece of paper that says you are legal but doesn’t provide you adequate benefits if you are injured in an accident or someone makes a claim against you. So, that again would be a full saving, I couldn’t possibly recommend that to you. The only legitimate adequate way of trying to reduce your auto insurance is like you do with every other product - Comparison Shop. Check on the department of banking and insurance web page, check on the web pages of the various insurance companies, call different insurance agents. Tell them who you are, where you live, what kind of insurance coverage you want and then compare the cause based upon the same type of coverage. Be very careful, not to take up insurance that is cheaper simply because the money is less without determining whether or not you getting the same kind of insurance coverage, that you would, if you were properly insured.
